To strengthen the management of entertainment venues and ensure their healthy development, the 122nd executive meeting of the State Council adopted the "Regulations on the Management of Entertainment Venues" (State Council Decree No. 458), which came into effect on March 1, 2006. According to the relevant provisions of the regulations, this means that from March 1 onward, all entertainment venues nationwide will be required to install a new type of equipment—security inspection gates! However, security inspection gates are a very unfamiliar concept to the Chinese public. How to select a security inspection gate suitable for entertainment venues has become one of the key topics for every owner and contractor of such venues to study.

Another name for the security gate is metal detection gate, which, as the name suggests, is an instrument used to detect metals. From its inception in the 1970s to the present, it has spanned over 30 years, yet it remains largely unfamiliar to most modern Chinese citizens. Today, security gates have evolved to the third generation. The first-generation security gates were made of wood and PVC, lacking zone-specific alarms. The second-generation gates were constructed from fiberglass, featuring six detection zones, though the sixth zone (the head area) did not trigger alarms. The third-generation security gates feature an aluminum alloy exterior with ABS and PVC components in the middle, offering enhanced flame resistance and corrosion protection. Internally, they utilize *new patch technology*, differing from the traditional plug-in board technology of the first and second generations. These gates offer eight-zone adjustment, six-zone detection, with the addition of a seventh zone for overall sensitivity adjustment and an eighth zone for stability adjustment, achieving higher stability (represented by manufacturers such as Dongguan Andun Electronic Technology). *Recent reports* indicate that Andun successfully completed the development of the fourth-generation security gate on March 22 of this year, marking a new era in security gate technology. Company officials revealed that this gate’s successful development fills a global gap as the world’s *first metal detection gate constructed with a metal frame*. By using metal to interfere with the magnetic field, the originally unstable spherical magnetic field is rearranged into a new, more uniform and stable field, achieving the goal of "using metal to overcome metal" to enhance the gate’s sensitivity and stability.

Security gates used in entertainment venues do not require high sensitivity but prioritize stability, design aesthetics, flame retardancy, and safety to ensure no harm to humans, including individuals with pacemakers or pregnant women. Therefore, when selecting security gates for such venues, attention should be paid to the material, style, stability, and safety—these four aspects are *most critical*. The primary consideration is whether the gate’s technology, production process, or operating frequency could harm humans, which depends on whether the manufacturer has mastered the product’s safety parameters. Choosing safe frequencies and power intensities can effectively control electromagnetic radiation within safe limits. Additionally, according to national standards for security gate specifications, electrical safety requirements include: the impedance between all accessible metal parts when powered by AC should not exceed 0.5Ω, and insulation resistance under normal conditions should be no less than 100MΩ. Within this range, electric shock hazards can be prevented even with faulty grounding. The second consideration is the gate’s anti-interference capability and the ability to adjust sensitivity levels. Note that security gates only detect and alert for metals, with no capability to detect drugs or explosives lacking metal components. Their true purpose in entertainment venues is to filter out small metal items like lighters, phones, and keys while alerting only for prohibited weapons such as knives and firearms, thereby preventing illegal activities. Thus, stability and adjustable sensitivity are also highly important. Furthermore, if the gate features remote control functionality for ease of operation (reducing panel wear), LED doorpost displays, and mute adjustment, it becomes even more suitable for entertainment venues. If the venue has upscale decor, selecting a visually appealing gate with a metallic finish that complements the venue’s style can serve as a highlight for the overall ambiance.
